Sass got sick (again) and missed the 5K, so Bob bumped up to a half — and finally cracked the sub-two-hour barrier in teen-degree cold on a course that turned out to be a tenth long. Then he flew to Washington for a stupid-pretty rainforest 50K put on by a friend, took the ferry across Puget Sound, and rediscovered why timed races are just more fun. Plus: super shoes, BOAs, and why podiatrists evidently know jack about running shoes.

Hyner Recap (or: Bob Wore Two Watches)
Bob and KJ reconvene to recap the Hyner 50K — Paul left it all out there at 6:06, Elliot had a solid day, KJ ran his fastest Hyner ever despite a deeply unwise dive bar pizza the night before, and Bob rolled his ankle at mile 4, kicked the other foot into a rock, ran out of water, and DNF’d at mile 16. Allegedly while wearing two watches. The cake table at the finish line is real, and SOB Hill earned its name.
